30 WTG Windfarm at Pahkakoski with the TCI-Concept

Silvasti’s pioneering Transportation- Crane-Installation (TCI) construction project of 30 wind turbines has reached its completion, and the project has been handed over to the client, Ilmatar Energy. The Pahkakoski project located in Ii, Finland, was executed with the new Silvasti TCI- concept, enabling efficient project execution, cost savings and smaller environmental footprint.

The project was completed safely, without any lost time incidents (LTI) and ahead of schedule, after the erection of the turbines reached record speeds during the spring and summer.

For the client, it proved to be worth procuring Pahkakoski project in a completely new way of building windpower in Europe. Antti Lehtinen, Procurement Director of Ilmatar: “Utilizing the TCI concept at Pahkakoski brought us significant cost savings. The savings were generated from efficient project management and execution, minimizing waiting times for the cranes and transports and by reducing the magnitude of required civil construction. We need to construct roads and hardstands for the project, but don’t want to cut trees unnecessarily.

Silvasti has decades long experience from special-, project-, and wind power logistics, and has participated in over 700 wind power projects since the 2000’s. The acquired experience enabled this new step to be taken, creating the ability for Silvasti to serve their clients even further.

For the Pahkakoski project, Silvasti chose the leading co-operation partners. BMS Heavy Cranes A/S provided the cranes and Global Wind Service executed the installation works. The wind turbines were supplied by Vestas, according to the client’s choice of preference.

Ville Silvasti, Founder and CEO of Kuljetusliike Ville Silvasti Oy “As the investment environment remains challenging, and at the same time wind power construction is lacking behind European Union needs for climate targets and energy security, new innovations are needed.  Pahkakoski project demonstrates that the TCI concept is a bankable and cost-efficient way of constructing wind farms with lower environmental impacts compared to traditional wind power projects. We are very grateful to Ilmatar for the trust given and pleased about the smooth co-operation with our partners and the wind turbine OEM Vestas in the project execution. Following this successful pilot project, Silvasti is now ready to provide excellent results and lower costs with TCI concept to other windfarm construction projects. “
